WHO WE ARE
The Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation is a non-profit organization comprised of concerned volunteers. The Foundation’s mission is to help break the cycle of neglect, abuse, and failure experienced by many children aged 0-18 years and their families. The Foundation supports the clients of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres, living on the island of Montreal, when public funds are not available.
Through different annual fundraising initiatives, the Foundation raises an average of $250,000 per year to fund programs of assistance offered to youth living with their own families, in foster care, in residential placement and transitioning to independent living.
The Foundation’s programs are designed to create an environment for youth to feel empowered and help pave the way for a brighter future.
Donations are needed and accepted throughout the year. Please donate today.
It is with great sadness that we report that our friend and mentor Manuel Gilman Batshaw died peacefully on July 18th, 2016. The Board of Directors and staff of the Foundation send our deepest sympathies to Mr. Batshaw's son Mark, his family and friends.
Never one to take himself too seriously, he was loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege to meet him, and he always asked to be called Manny – we will honour him by doing so in our tribute.
History will record that Manny’s greatest contribution was in reforming the delivery of youth protection services in the 1970’s: the Ten Commandments that were written in the Coles notes version of The Batshaw Report could be defined as "common sense" but were also the foundation of best practice still relevant to this day.
At Batshaw, we would argue that the reason Manny and the committee got it right was because he had strong moral values and UNDERSTOOD and LIKED children, a combination which guided the work at hand. His legacy will not soon be forgotten.
You can find Manny's complete obituary by clicking here and can read more about his involvement in the Foundation in the ''About Us - Our Story'' tab above.
Donations in Manny’s memory can be made online through our Canada Helps page, by sending a cheque to Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation, 5 Weredale Park, Westmount (QC) H3Z 1Y5 or by calling Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation at (514) 989-1885 ext.: 1011. Please note, due to our staff’s summer holiday schedules, your call will be returned within a few days.
